A TOP model who is the face of a major Tesco advertising campaign has had her voice dubbed over for a more southern sound.

Charlotte Wiggins, who attended Rainford High, was selected to be the new the supermarket’s F&F clothing line.

In the television advert, Charlotte, 24, is seen in the supermarket aisles in a selection of F&F fashions against the backdrop of the song Supermarket Woman before uttering the ad’s tagline: "I only came in for the ice cream."

But instead of her northern accent the voice that comes out of Charlotte’s mouth is "received pronunciation".

The story has made national newspapers, with reports suggesting her voice was too nothern for the campaign.

However, a Tesco spokesperson said: "Our intention was always to use a model and a professional voiceover artist for campaign."

Charlotte, who was discovered aged 16 while on a school trip to the Clothes Show Live in Birmingham, works for Select Management.

She has starred in campaigns for Burberry, Topshop and Stella McCartney – who kept the model’s real voice in her ads.
