ROADS, including the linkway near Chalon Way, are set to remain closed into the evening as police cordons are in place after three men suffered stab wounds yesterday, Sunday.

It is likely that they will remain closed for a significant period of today. (Monday, April 24), with a police spokesman adding: “The cordons are expected to be in place into this evening and the roads are not set to open any time soon.”

The roads closed are as follows:

  • Access on to Bridge Street (one-way section) from Ormskirk Street.
  • Chalon Way closed in both directions between King Street/Westfield Street and Linkway West (B&Q roundabout).
  • Liverpool Road fully closed, no access from Westfield Street,
  • Liverpool Street or Linkway West.
  • Canal Street closed in both directions between Linkway West and Bold Street (the Phoenix Public House).
  • Bold Street fully closed between Glover Street and Canal Street.

The potential for commuter disruption is very high, and road users should be advised to make every effort to avoid the area, to prevent pressure on the surrounding roads.

The three victims are being treated in hospital for their injuries. Two are described as being in a critical condition and the third man's condition is described as stable.

A 17-year-old from Rainhill and an 18-year-old man from Liverpool have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

A 21-year-old man from Huyton has been arrested on suspicion of assault.

The incident is believed to have happened at the rear of the Phoenix pub, Canal Street, say police.

Further updates will be provided in regards to road closures.
