TWO teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after three men suffered stab wounds in St Helens on Sunday evening.

At about 5.25pm emergency services were called to Liverpool Road, close to the Shere Khan takeaway, to a report that a man had been stabbed.

Two other men were found nearby with injuries, with one of the three in a critical condition.

On Monday police arrested a third suspect, a 21-year-old man from Huyton, and he is being questioned on suspicion of assault.

The incident is believed to have happened at the rear of the Phoenix pub, Canal Street, say police.

A significant number of road closures were put in place in the area of Cineworld, Aldi and up to the Range to enable officers to forensically examine the scene.

Trails of blood could be seen on Bridge Street, where one the multiple police cordons were in place.

The three victims are now at hospital where they are being treated for their injuries.

One, a 20-year-old man is in a critical condition, while two others, aged 18 and 21, are described as being in a stable condition.

A 17-year-old from Rainhill and an 18-year-old man from Liverpool have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
