POLICE are hunting a man who demanded money from off-licence staff before being forced to flee empty-handed.

During the attempted robbery at Bargain Booze on Lugsmore Lane, Thatto Heath it is believed a man approached the counter.

He then demanded money from the staff before attempting to go behind the till area.

The man was fended off by the staff before leaving the shop empty-handed.

The offender is described as being around 40 years of age, approximately 5ft 8in tall, of stocky build and spoke with a local accent.

He was wearing light blue jeans, a hooded top with patches on the shoulders and elbows and trainers.

As part of their investigation, officers have issued a CCTV image of a man who they believe could help with their enquiries.

The incident happened at around 6.20pm on Saturday, January 14.
