A MAN has been arrested in connection with a house burglary in which a safe containing jewellery and cash was stolen.

At around 4pm on Monday afternoon (April 10), burglars gained entry to a home on Knowsley Road, Eccleston after forcing a window open.

The small safe, containing cash and jewellery, was taken.

It is believed that the offenders also entered the garage of a neighbouring property, although it is not believed anything was taken from it. A spade was found close to the scene which may have been used to gain access.

A 22-year-old man from St Helens has been arrested on suspicion of burglary this morning (Wednesday) and has been taken to a police station for questioning.

Police are appealing for the public's help in their investigation.

Local Policing Inspector Matt Drennan said: "I would encourage anyone with information to contact police as we continue to investigate this offence.

"We will be providing a visible presence in the area to offer reassurance and crime prevention advice.

"Members of the local community with any information on burglary or who have seen people acting suspiciously in the area in recent days should contact us.

"I would also appeal for anyone else with home CCTV that may have captured images of the men to get in touch. Any information provided will be acted on."
