A 27-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a four-year-old girl died following a hit-and-run.

He is also arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Violet Grace Youens died at 11.38pm on Saturday after both she and her gran Angela French, 55 were hit as they crossed Prescot Road near Laurel Villa Dental Practice.

Her gran is still in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

This is the second arrest in this case, as a 23-year-old man, who police stated was not in the car at the time of the incident was arrested yesterday, Sunday.

He has been released pending further enquires.

CCTV images showing two men in sports kit running from the scene, were released on Friday and have been circulated widely.

In a message on social media Violet-Grace's mum Rebecca wrote: “My beautiful baby girl passed away in my arms on 25/03/2017 at 23:38.

“Thank you for all your well wishes... she was just too poorly.

“However, my brave baby girl saved two lives by donating her kidneys and pancreas. I am truly heartbroken but proud of my little fighter!

“Violet Grace Susan Youens 02/10/2012 - 25/03/2017 RIP baby girl.”

Violet-Grace is the daughter of Rebecca and Glenn. She leaves a 21-month-old brother Oliver.
