A NEW Women’s Institute in Newton-le-Willows is looking for more people to trial the group this month ahead of an event attended by the mayor and mayoress.

The Viaduct Violets, based at St Patricks Social Centre on Common Road, hold their meetings every third Wednesday of the month and are looking for women of all ages to get involved.

The group, which currently has around 40 members, including Cllr Jeanie Bell, will be hosting the mayor and mayoress, Cllrs Dave and Jeanette Banks and Cllr Seve Gomez-Asperon on March 21 from 7pm.

The meeting will also include a talk from a chocolatier as well as a chance for people to ask questions about the latest WI.

Lisa Barnes secretary of the group said: “We raise money for different charities and host different speakers.

“We have people from 30 to 80 so it would be great for others to get involved and get it out there a bit more.”

People can attend two sessions before deciding to become members.
