THE East Lancs Road has reopned after a carriageway was closed earlier this afternoon to drivers heading towards Liverpool from Windle following a crash involving two cars.
Police were called shortly before noon after a Vauxhall Astra and a Vauxhall Vivaro were in collision.
The female driver of one of the vehicles has been taken to hospital by ambulance, according to Merseyside Police, who added that the air ambulance service had initially been called to help but was not needed.
Police say the carriageway from Windle towards Liverpool was closed due to debris on the road surfaces and damage to signs.
The collision occurred at the junction of Catchdale Moss Lane and the East Lancs Road at around 11.50am.
A police spokesman said: "The extent of the female's injuries is unknown."
The carriageway was closed for around an hour and a half.
