A COUPLE who committed “some of the most despicable crimes against children” police have seen, have been jailed for a combined total of 39 years for sex offences and child cruelty.

Michael Miszczsak, 54, of Acorn Street, Newton-le-Willows and his ex-wife Sandra Jones, 52, now of Promenade, Southport appeared in Liverpool Crown Court to be sentenced for historical sex offences against children before the age of eight.

Miszczak, who was found guilty of 10 charges including child rape, indecent assault and child cruelty, was sentenced to a total of 25 years plus an extended period of three years on licence, after being found guilty.

Sandra Jones, was sentenced to a total of 14 years plus a further year on extended licence, after being found guilty of four charges including aiding and abetting rape, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and child cruelty.

The assaults took place at a property in Newton-le-Willows.

Detective Chief Inspector Chris Sephton said: “The crimes committed by Miszczak and Jones, are some of the most despicable crimes against children we have seen – no-one deserves to be treated this way.

“The victims should be commended for their bravery in coming forward and supporting the investigation.

“They have shown great strength in giving evidence which has resulted in the conviction and lengthy sentence that has been passed today. I hope that their determination serves as inspiration for others.

“While today’s sentence cannot un-do the harm that has been caused, we hope it gives the victims some sense of justice.

“I would like to take this opportunity to reassure anyone who has suffered a sexual offence that if you too can find the courage to come forward and speak to us, we will deal with you sensitively and make sure that reports are properly and thoroughly investigated."

Anyone wishing to report a sexual offence can call officers via 101 or information can be passed to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
