A STUDENT "speechless but proud" after his work was chosen to feature in a writing anthology.

Ben Ramsey, who studied at Carmel College before starting his English and Film Studies degree at Salford University, beat off hundreds of applicants to feature in Electric Reads’ Young Writer’s Anthology 2016.

The collection of work is made up of new talent featuring the best works of fiction from unknown artists under 25 from across the country.

Ben, 18 and from Moss Bank, whose work Cyanophobia, discussing a person’s fear of the colour blue, features in the book, said: “I was so shocked to find out that my wok had been chosen, I want to write professionally in the future so this left me speechless but proud.

“I found out in December and since then my family have just been totally thrilled and amazed.

"I went back to Carmel to share my good news and they are really made up for me as well.

“I would encourage others who love to write to apply for next year, I didn’t think I would get in but I did, you never know unless you try.”
