A ONE day event is being held to raise funds for schoolgirl Jessica Chisnall who suffered serious head injuries after being hit by a scrambler bike which mounted the pavement in January.

More than £900 has so far been collected for Jessica, 15, who has now been allowed to go home to recover after spending a number of weeks in hospital following the incident, which happened on Ashtons Green Drive as she left St Cuthbert’s school for home.

The Ship Inn pub will host ‘Jessica’s Journey Family Fun Day’ on Sunday, March 12, and people can come along, take part in a range of activities and make donations to assist with Jessica’s recovery.

On the same day, Gary Critchley, a friend of Jessica’s family, will take on a 13-mile run from St George’s Hall in Liverpool, finishing at the Ship Inn, which is on Blackbrook Road.

Warehouse worker Gary, 36, said: “I’m going to start at around noon and hopefully arrive at the pub during the fun day.

“I used to live near Jessica’s family when I was growing up, so I know her parents – and hopefully this will help them. People can donate to a crowdfunding page, where they are trying to raise £1,500.”

On the crowdfunding page, Jessica’s uncle Kenneth Langley describes her as “very popular”, “always smiling” and says she would “light up a room”.

Jessica is the youngest of three sisters and following the incident, her parents Carl and Sara thanked local people for all the support and well wishes.

The incident, which happened on Friday, January 13, caused bleeding on the brain, eye socket injuries and deep cuts from head to toe, resulting in Jessica initially being put into a coma.

Two youths, aged 12 and 16, were arrested and have been bailed pending further enquiries.

The Ship Inn family fun day, with free entry from 11am to 4pm, will include live music, a raffle, a bouncy castle and face painting.
