A SERIAL offender has been jailed after a burglary at the home of an 88-year-old woman while she lay ill in bed on Christmas Day.

David Isaacs, of no fixed address, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court, where he pleaded guilty and was sentenced for two years and five months in prison.

He had also breached the conditions of a suspended sentence.

The 33-year-old admitted that he forced entry to a house on Poynter Street, in Thatto Heath at around 8.30pm, he then searched the downstairs of the property before making off empty handed.

The woman was upstairs at the time of the offence.

Following forensic enquiries, he was arrested and charged for the offence.

Detective Constable Ian Harrison said: "It beggars belief that someone would invade an elderly lady's home on Christmas Day and attempt to steal from her, and we are pleased that Isaacs has been removed from the streets.

"The victim has fully supported our investigation, and I would like to praise her bravery in what was clearly a distressing experience.

“Hopefully the sentence will allow her to get on with her life and feel secure in her own home."
