IF you're a certain age, it was probably your first phone and you lost a massive chunk of your teenage years attempting to beat your friend's score on Snake II.

But now, 17 years after it was originally launched, the Nokia 3310 appears to be making a comeback.

It has been reported nationally HMD Oy Global, a Finnish manufacturer with the exclusive rights to market the Nokia brand, is planning to release a revamped version of the classic phone at the end of this month.

According to Nokia, the original version was the world's best-selling phone before it was retired in 2005 and known by many fans as 'indestructible'.

According to reports, the phone will initially be available only to European and North American consumers and will cost €59.

There have been no further details about how close the new version will be to the original.

The year 2000:

  • Westlife, S Club 7, Britney Spears and Destiny's Child were regularly chart-toppers. But perhaps the most significant number one that year was Craig David, a man who has already made a comeback in the past 12 months, revealing his weekly guide to how to woo a lady with hit single 7 Days.
  •  Big Brother aired for the first time
  • Rower Steve Redgrave wins his fifth consecutive gold medal at the Sydney Olympics
  • Overall Team GB wins 11 gold, 10 silver and 7 bronze medals
  • Last game played at the old Wembley Stadium
  • Prime Minister Tony Blair was given a famously hostile reception by Women's Institute members involving heckling and slow hand-clapping
  • England fail to get out of their group in Euro 2000 after losing to Portugal and Romania.
