POLICE have traced a man they wanted to speak to after a pensioner was bitten by a dog in Newton-le-Willows.

A 71-year-old woman was left with a “nasty” leg wound after reports a dog left outside a newsagents on Market Street bit her.

The pensioner told officers she was about to enter the store when man came out of the shop and untied the dog.

It then ran towards the woman and bit her on the right leg.

The man apologised and left the area in the direction of Crow Lane West.

Police released CCTV of a man they wanted to find on Friday and a spokesman said today he had been traced.

Inspector Andrew Johnston said: “The lady was left badly shaken by her ordeal and with a nasty wound to her leg.

"I would appeal to anyone who has any information which could assist with our investigation to contact us.”

The incident happened at 10am on Wednesday, January 11.
