A MAN has been charged in connection with the theft of paving slabs worth more than £300 from the grounds of Victoria Park.

Police received reports of a theft in the early hours of Thursday, November 17 after a man had removed the lock from the courtyard gates at St Marks Gate Lodge at Victoria Park.

The building is a Grade II listed site and was subject to a renovation with the aid of lottery funding in 2014.

Brian Gill, 44, from Alder Street, Newton-le-Willows was arrested today in connection with the theft and charged.

He has been bailed to appear at Liverpool, Knowsley and St Helens Plea Court, on Tuesday, January 10.

Anyone with further information on the incident or the whereabouts of these stones is urged to contact Merseyside Police on 101 quoting incident number 0516260424, or alternatively contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
