THIS year's Sherdley Park fireworks display (Saturday, 5 November) Will feature a Saturday Night at the Movies theme.

Organisers are promising one of the biggest displays yet. Fireworks will launch in rhythm with some iconic movie soundtracks in both the children’s and main displays.

St Helens Council is urging people to plan their journey ahead via public transport or allow plenty of time to park before the spectacle begins.

The event gets underway at 6pm with the opening of the funfair (open until 9pm) followed by the children's fireworks display at 7pm, before the main spectacle at 8pm.

Secure car parking is available for £10 per car at Lea Green Station, Sutton Academy and The Islamic Centre and at Mere Grange (£5 per car) or for free at Chester Lane Centre.

Gary Maddock, St Helens Council's town centre manager, said: “We believe the movies theme will be hugely popular and attract a large audience from across the region.

"The fireworks display in Sherdley Park has increased in popularity over recent years and we are urging people to plan their journey via public transport using Lea Green Station or to use the secure, designated car parks near the site and arrive in plenty of time.”

Event-goers are also being asked to leave their sparklers at home this year. Spent sparklers that can be missed during the clear up operation can cause serious injuries to those taking part in sports activities and dogs being walked in the park after the event.
