A STEVE Prescott Foundation team has conquered another epic challenge in memory of the charity's founder after reaching Everest Base Camp on Saturday.

The 41-strong team, which includes Steve's wife Linzi and eldest son Taylor, reached the destination on Saturday.

They then carried on to reach Kala Patthar at a final altitude of 5,600m above sea level.

The squad, who set out on October 15, has so far raised £198,000 and is closing on its target of £200,000.

Messages of praise have been flooding in for the climbers.

An SPF statement read: "Just received this message from our leader Ade Cunliffe!

"41 safe and sound. Been a 12 hour day. Just back at lodge now. Mission completed, the SPF took over base camp."

Writing on Facebook, Ade Cunliffe, the team leader, said: "All 41 made it to Everest Basecamp yesterday. Gruelling 12 hr day in freezing conditions.

The SPF flag flew proudly. Hard to put into words, the emotions every single member feels.

"THEN today, we were up at 4:30am & started our climb up Kala Pattar at 5am.

"Brutal ascent in freezing conditions. Took 5 hours to get up & down, but the reward of Everest was magical.

"Again the SPF flag flew high & proud. We now have to walk around 7hrs to our next accommodation, so back to back 12hr days.

"Thanks to you all for messages of support, please keep them coming for all the team, it's a highlight of our day getting to read them."
