THE family of a 10-year-old who died following a brave battle against an aggressive brain tumour last year say they were "overwhelmed" by a fundraising event held in his memory.

The Star reported as former teammates of Zac's at Seneley and Garswood junior football club’s under-12s Falcons team arranged the evening held at Langtree Park.

And the night was a barnstorming success with more than £16,500 already raised in Zac's memory.

The former Garswood Primary School pupil passed away in March 2015.

Proceeds from the Zac Barston Tribute Fund will go to the Children’s Brain Tumour Research Network at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.

The money will go towards treatment and improving the quality of life of youngsters such as Zac, as well as research into beating the aggressive brain tumour called glioblastoma multiforme that he suffered from.

The event included a hotpot supper, DJ, raffle prizes, silent and live auctions, live music and special guests.

Among those entertaining the guests were The Rock Choir.

Zac’s father, Jeff said after the event: “We were really moved when the football club told us they were organising this event in memory of Zac and we have been overwhelmed by the sense of community spirit and support we have received from the public, local businesses, sponsors and event performers.

"The Rock Choir added a different dimension to the evening and provided a major contribution towards the overall success of the event.’’

Local Rock Choir leader, Kathryn Davies added: “The Rock Choir members had great fun entertaining the guests and were very moved at the support that people gave to the charity.”
