PLANS have been drawn up to convert a town centre doctors' surgery into a multiple-occupancy house.

Lancaster House Medical Centre on North Road, St Helens will be transformed if proposals receive the go-ahead from council planners, along with external alterations.

So far one letter of objection has been written over the plans which expressed opposition to the proposed bricking up of existing windows. The letter states planned reclaimed bricks "will never truly match" what is currently there and would look "incongruous".

It added the changes would "negatively affect" the setting across from a listed building, referencing the "wonderful character" of the area coupled with the former Larkins restaurant.

The blueprints were received by the council on September 16 and proposals remain up for public consultation until Tuesday, October 11.
