A GRANDMOTHER has shed her locks to raise funds for Macmillan in memory of her best friend who passed away from cancer.
Sixty-year-old Freda Brodie had her hair cut with clippers out in the middle of her street in memory of friend Leona Stewart.
Freda, from Peasley Cross, has raised more than £200 already for her challenge which she was inspired to do after encouragement from a friend.
"It was a nice sunny day for it," said grandmother-of-seven Freda.
"There were three lads across the fence and one of them put £1.20 in the box and a couple of neighbours put money in."
Freda says she is getting used to having an insight into life without hair.
"Initially it was quite awkward, I am one of those people when I walk round town I like to look at people and smile and found they were looking and quickly glancing away like they're uncomfortable. I was thinking, is that what it's like when you have cancer?
"It still is a bit strange, when it's a cold breeze it's like somebody poured ice on my head," added Freda, a retired office clerk.
"My family have been saying what have you done though when I saw my hairdresser she said I was one of the few she knew who could get away with doing that and not many 60-year-olds would try!"
