THE St Helens Triathlon returns this weekend looking to build on the success of last year's inaugural event.

Hosted by The Steve Prescott Foundation, the Tabern St Helens Triathlon will be held on Sunday (September 25). There will again be an 'Olympic' and 'sprint' course on offer for participants.

The event, which was Steve Prescott's final wish to see happen, involves a swim at Eccleston Mere, a bike ride into Rainford and then finished with a run.

Organisers say the event will surpass last year's event with 210 people signed up to take on the challenge.

Among the field will be triple-amputee war veteran Andy Reid who will be hand cycling the running and cycle route.

Martin Blondel of the Steve Prescott Foundation said: "It will be better than last year and 'd like to thank the partners, St Helens Council and residents for their support and encourage as many people to get out there and support the people taking part and really make a difference."
