WE'LL start this week with a couple of photographs sent to me by reader John-Alan Green.

He was browsing through some old photos a friend sent him a few years ago and came across this scene shot.

John-Alan wrote: "It's dating from the mid to late sixties. You may have seen it yourself. I wonder if anybody can remember where it was taken? That should be quite easy but better still can anybody recall the gentleman in the photo."

John has also sent a photo of Kevin Heneghan, one of our regular correspondents, that was taken in 1956 with his class. Can anyone tell us the school and do you know anyone pictured on there?

Meanwhile, I'm looking forward to the heritage celebrations this weekend. I've picked out a selection of events that I think will be highlights.

Eccleston Smithy will be offering Tudor style fun for all the family between noon and 5pm. on both Saturday and Sunday.

Holy Cross Church on Corporation Street will be conducting tours at 12.30pm and 2.30pm on the Saturday and 2.15pm on the Sunday.

The Parish Church will only be open on the Saturday, between 10am and 3pm.

The Gamble Central Library has tours on the Friday 10.30am to 11.30am and 2pm to 3pm. On Saturday they are 10.30am to 11.30am and noon to 1pm.

The weekend will also celebrate the Jordan and Metcalfe Glass negative collection with an opportunity to meet the archivist for the project.

The Masonic Hall on Hall Street will be open 10am to 5pm and on the Saturday between 10am and 4pm.

St John's Church on Crossley Road, Ravenhead, is open on the Saturday 11am to 3pm.

St Thomas's Church on Westfield Street is open Thursday and Friday 1pm till 5pm, Saturday 11am till 4pm, Sunday noon till 4pm.

The Citadel Arts Centre on Waterloo Street was the original Theatre Royal back in 1861? It is the seventh oldest remaining play house in Britain and the fifth oldest remaining auditoria, and is a great venue.

This year it is only open on the Saturday 2.30pm till 4.30pm because the band 'Soul Train' will be playing in the evening and I have booked my seat.
The Mansion House in Victoria Park are doing tours Thursday 1.30pm, Friday 3pm, and Sunday 1.30pm and 2.30pm.

The tours must be booked so ring 01744 752644.
