A 40-YEAR-OLD man has died following a collision on a stretch of the M58 motorway, near to Rainford.
Police were called at about 1.45pm to reports of an incident between Bickerstaffe, Lancashire and Kirkby.
A HGV had collided with a man in lane one of the motorway.
The victim, a 40-year-old man from Crosby, suffered multiple injuries and died at the scene.
The driver, of the HGV, a 58-year-old man, was uninjured.
The road was closed for five hours while accident investigators attended the scene.
Police are appealing for information following the incident.
PC David Todhunter, of Lancashire Police, said: “This is a tragic incident and my thoughts are with this man’s family and friends at this difficult time.
“We are investigating the circumstances of the collision and would appeal to anyone with information to contact police.
