STEP away from the smartphone and computer screen and explore the great outdoors at Knowsley Safari’s BioBlitz event.

Set over the bank holiday weekend, August 26 and 27, visitors are invited to join Knowsley’s team of naturalists and wildlife watchers at the park’s Wild Trail to discover as many bats, birds, bugs and beasties as they can in a 24 hour time frame.

The BioBlitz event provides an opportunity for communities to explore green spaces right on their doorstep, while generating valuable data that will be documented and passed on to databases to monitor our local wildlife.
There will be interactive activities for the young and young at heart alike, including a bat walk, mammal monitoring, moth trapping and workshops on caring for native species.

Bridget Murray, Knowsley Safari’s Research and Conservation Officer, says: “The BioBlitz gives us the chance to recognise the beauty in our own back gardens as we take guests through the Wild Trail and help them understand the important roles many of the animals in our ecosystem play that we often take for granted.”

“We’ve recorded increasing numbers year-on-year which helps us identify areas of our site that are acting as havens for the many native species that roam here and our visitors play a big part in helping us continue to work to protect them.”

This is Knowsley Safari’s third year taking up the BioBlitz challenge and they are hoping to surpass their target from last year of 107 species recorded over a 24 hour period.
