A RUNNING race around Eccleston takes place this Sunday (August 7), raising funds for a charity set up by a couple who lost their daughter to stillbirth.

The Grind 5, previously known as the 'Griffin Grind', which starts at 9am at Eccleston Mere field, near the Griffin Inn, will be accepting entries from runners of all ages and abilities on the day.

Last year, around 200 adults took the five-mile challenge while 70 little ones completed a 1k version, in aid of The Isabella Rose Foundation.

The foundation was set up by Geoff Parr and Amanda Pope in memory of daughter Isabella Rose Parr, who was stillborn at 31 weeks in 2011. Proceeds help other families who suffer the heartbreak of losing a child through stillbirth and those who have a child born prematurely.

Charity chair David Pope, Isabella's grandad, said: "Around 200 people have now signed up.

"Children who do the 1k dash get a medal and goodie bag.

"It's a fun family event for local people. It's all on closed roads. Hopefully people will get off the couch and get out there.

"We are hoping to hold a barbecue on the day, weather permitting."

Registration for the Grind 5 event costs up to £22 and the children's event, which starts at the later time of 11am, is £5. Though online registration has now closed, people can sign up on the day as long as they arrive before 9am.
