THE Steve Prescott Foundation and the St Helens Star are delighted to confirm that the Pride of St Helens 2016 awards will take place on Friday, November 11 at Langtree Park.

The event, a celebration of the community and a chance to award the champions of St Helens, is now in its fifth year.

Nominations are made by St Helens Star readers to acknowledge and reward the outstanding citizens of the town.

The awards are a legacy of St Helens rugby league player Steve Prescott, the charity crusader and cancer fighter.

Steve passed away in 2013 after a long battle with cancer, during which he won widespread admiration for raising awareness of the disease and taking on endurance challenges.

Steve always believed that the numerous achievements of the people of St Helens deserved acknowledgement and celebration.

The launch of this year’s event will be on August 4 when the list of categories will be announced and the closing date for nominations will also be confirmed.

Organisers have announced that The Eccleston Arms will be the new main sponsor of this year’s event.

Categories include sportsperson of the year, excellence in business award, arts award and child of courage award.

There are a couple of new categories this year including the unsung hero award which replaces the community hero award and charity champion of the year in place of champion fundraiser.

The criteria for each category will be confirmed at the launch.

Sponsorship packages are available with prices frozen to last year’s cost.

Some of last year’s sponsors have already confirmed their support, including St Helens Chamber.

The St Helens Star will feature each category and sponsor in the lead up to the event.

Nominations will be made via the St Helens Star’s website and will open after the launch date.

It is the quality of nomination based on each award’s criteria and not the quantity of nominations which determines which candidates are shortlisted by the review panel.

Short-listed nominees are invited to attend the glittering event.

The awards evening features a four course dinner and top class live entertainment, and will be a celebration of St Helens’ good and great.
