IMPROVEMENTS are to be made to a busy road after public concerns over safety.

Residents who were worried about cars speeding along Haresfinch Road met with St Helens North MP Conor McGinn about the issue.

In May, two pedestrians were injured after a car collided with a wall.

St Helens Council has now agreed to improve road markings and signage along the road – and to introduce vehicle-activated speed warnings to urge motorists to slow down.

Once in place, the new measures should help cut vehicle speeds and improve safety for residents, drivers and pedestrians.

Welcoming the changes, Mr McGinn said: “I’m pleased that the council has listened and responded positively to my call for action.

“I hope the promised measures will make the road safer for residents and cut vehicle speeds.

“When I met local people it was clear how concerned they were over the damage caused to their cars and property, and how worried they were about the risk of more serious accidents on the road."
