BIKERS organised a night to raise funds in memory of Isaac Haggerty, who died in March after a battle with Leukaemia.

Members of Ace of Spades scooter riders' club raised nearly £1,800 on Saturday, June 25, which will be donated to a leukaemia research charity

Little Isaac - son of former Widnes, Harlequins and Salford rugby league player, Gareth Haggerty and his wife Claire - died aged 21 months after fighting a rare form of cancer.

Kim Owens, 32, of West Park, organised the charity night - held at Greenalls Social Club, in Alder Hey Road - with help from her dad Paul Green and his friends Mike Barr and Chad Charles, all three members of Ace of Spades.

Kim, an HR worker, said: "The bikers all meet up every Thursday at Greenalls on their Lambrettas and Vespas. They do ride-outs at the weekend.

"Claire Haggerty is my friend so my dad knew all about Isaac and we wanted to do something to raise awareness and money."

Almost 200 people attended the fundraiser, which involved a raffle and a silent auction. There was entertainment from Madness tribute band Mad Hat Ska and two DJs.

Kim said: "Claire and Gareth and all the family came along. The night was fantastic, everyone got into the spirit of it and we raised £1,765. We're going to present the cheque to Claire on a Thursday night when the bikers meet up.

"Isaac touched so many people and fought the battle of a thousand men, always with a smile on his face. Ace of Spades SRC was inspired by his courage and spirit.

"If every reader gives blood or becomes a donor and then tells five friends, that will be the ultimate achievement and we can do Isaac proud, just like he made us proud."
