POLICE are appealing for information after ‘very offensive’ words were written on St Helens Parish Church.

The incident took place on June 19 and police say it is a ‘racially motivated’ act.

Neighbourhood Constable Neil McEwan said: “We know this is a particularly busy area and a lot of young people often congregate in this square.

“We are keen to trace a group of youths who were seen in the area on the day the offence was reported, as they may have information about this incident.

“The language used was very offensive and I’m sure the community would agree that the person(s) responsible need to be brought to justice, so any information could assist our investigation.”

Anyone with information should call 0151 777 1571 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
