THIS was the dramatic image on Prescot Road tonight after a police car struck bollards and landed on top of a parked vehicle on a car forecourt.
The patrol car, which police say was responding to an emergency call following a "violent domestic incident" crashed at Gary Kennedy cars, near to the Eccleston Arms.
Merseyside Police said the car was in collision with bollards on a garage forecourt at the junction of Prescot Road and Downs Road, West Park, at around 5.15pm.
It ended up on top of a Ford Kuga that was parked on the forecourt and damage was caused to several other cars and a street light.
The male officer who was driving the car and a female officer, who was in the passenger seat and had to be cut out of the car, were both been taken to hospital.
They have since been discharged.
No members of the public were injured, say police.
A police spokesman said: "A number of drivers who were on Prescot Road at the time of the incident stopped to assist the police with their enquiries.
"Officers would urge anyone who witnessed this incident to contact 101 or the roads policing team on 0151 777 5747."
