A MAN from Blackbrook is to run from one iconic Merseyside building to another to raise money for the British Lung Foundation.

Gary Critchley, 36, will complete the 12-mile run from St George's Hall in Liverpool to St Helens Town Hall on Saturday, July 9, along with a group of friends, starting at midday.

On the day, a charity bucket will be placed in the Cricketers Arms pub in Peter Street, where Gary will go after the run and a raffle will be held.

Gary, who works as an order picker, said: "I'm doing this in memory of my nan Doreen Critchley, who was diagnosed with COPD. She passed away in January."

Gary, who was close to his nan, said she had been born in Huyton but later moved to Parr, and had gradually become more and more ill after the COPD diagnosis. She was 82 when she died, Gary said, and is missed by the family.

He said: "The run will be around 12 miles. I'll be doing it with a few others, not sure exactly how many yet.

"I've done a few runs recently so am hoping to be able to complete it without too much trouble. I did the St Helens 10k and a 10k sprint in Liverpool, as well as the Cheshire 10k."

He said he wants to raise "as much money as possible" for the British Lung Foundation.

He said: "I'm guessing I'll have finished the run by 4pm, so I'll go to the Cricketers and try to encourage more donations - and for some much-needed refreshment!"

Anyone who would like to donate can call into the Cricketers on July 9 or contact Gary on 07548 358476.
