MORE than 200 people joined in celebrations as the Steve Prescott Foundation (SPF) reached its first £1 million with an event at the Yorkshire Three Peaks this weekend (June 18 and 19).

Around 150 walkers - including Steve Prescott's wife Linzi and their sons Taylor, 14, and Koby, nine - tackled the gruelling 24-mile trek over Pen-y-Ghent, Ingleborough and Whernside, raising more funds for the SPF.

Emmerdale stars Isabel Hodgins and Michael Parr also took part, Michael being one of a 40-strong SPF party including Linzi and Taylor Prescott who will be taking on the Spectrum Everest Base Camp Challenge in October.

After the event, Michael posted Tweets reading: 'We did the Y3P in 10hrs three mins. Never walked that before. Proud of Taylor Prescott who shaved almost an hour off that' and 'Amazing weekend climbing the Yorkshire Thee Peaks. Proud that the charity celebrated its million-pound event'.

Walkers also included BBC North West Tonight's Beccy Barr and rugby league legends Ade Gardner, Iestyn Harris, Chris Joynt, Dave Lyon, Adrian Morley, Paul Newlove, Barrie McDermott and Paul Wellens.

Martin Blondel, general manager of the SPF, said: "This event was one of the toughest in the history of the SPF, from a logistical and physical point of view. It was the perfect way to pass the £Million mark in donations to charity.

"To see the Prescott family all tackle the Three Peaks and complete it was special; it was amongst the highest achievements of the SPF. Steve would be so rightly proud and it is a testament to his legacy and the family's determination to continue helping those less fortunate.

"When Steve first set up the SPF in 2007 we never dreamed that we would ever raise such a phenomenal amount of money. I am overwhelmed by the benevolence of folk and I know the great man would be too!"
