CASH and two scrambler bikes were seized in St Helens as police carried out Merseyside-wide raids.

Officers recovered £8,000 in cash from a property in Rainhill, where they made arrests for suspected theft and drug offences and issued a drug caution.

Two scrambler bikes - one broken into parts - were seized from a house in Ennerdale Avenue, where a man was cautioned for cannabis possession.

These actions were taken as Operation Brookdale, which runs during summer months to target the illegal and anti-social use of scrambler and off-road bikes, got underway.

Since the start of the operation, police have seized 17 bikes across Merseyside.

Superintendent Jenny Sims, of Merseyside Police, said: "We are pleased with the results of the activity across the force but would remind people that this is just the beginning of our summer of activity tackling off-road bikes.

"I would like to thank members of our communities who have provided information so far, and these results show that action will be taken when you come forward, so please continue to do so."

If anyone sees or knows of illegal or anti-social activity taking place involving scrambler or off-road type bikes, they can contact Merseyside Police via 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
