THE lives of two Thatto Heath community champions were honoured by the unveiling of plaques at the PERTH Community Centre.

Former mayor and mayoress Cllrs Steve and Lynn Glover were on hand to reveal the plaques in memory of the late Cllr Sheila Seddon and Janet Coy.

Sheila, a former mayor of St Helens, was a Thatto Heath ward councillor from 1999 until she died in September last year.

She was instrumental in securing a £132,704 grant from the Big Lottery to support residents in Thatto Heath with poor health and low income at the voluntary-run community facility in Dunedin Street, which provides education and recreation opportunities.

Meanwhile, Janet was a former treasurer and volunteer at the PERTH centre. She passed away in 2014.

Thatto Heath councillor Pat Ireland helped to arrange for the plaques to be displayed at the centre and was good friends with both Sheila and Janet.

She said: “Sheila and Janet were much loved members of the community who worked tirelessly for others.

“It is only right that they are honoured in this way so that their legacy can live on in the place they helped establish for the good and wellbeing of the people of Thatto Heath.”
