FIREFIGHTERS were called to a pizza takeaway in Sutton due to a gas leak.

Emergency services were called to the Pizza Place on Junction Lane shortly before 10.30am this morning (Monday, May 9).

One fire engine attended the incident after receiving a call from National Grid about a smell of gas at the property.

A spokesperson from Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said: "Fire crews evacuated neighbouring premises and isolated the gas supply and a 27-year-old man was helped out of the premises by firefighters. He was unharmed.

"Fire Safety Officers undertook an audit of the property. Scottish Power and National Grid were also in attendance.

"Firefighters remained at the scene for around two hours and twenty minutes."

Merseyside Police also attended the location but deemed no road closures were necessary.
