LEICESTER City's fairytale Premier League triumph may have come despite some bookies offering odds of 5,000-1 on them last August.

But what price would you get on there being families of next door neighbours who support the newly crowned champions in Newton-le-Willows?

Well, that's the unlikely scenario that Star readers informed us of this week after Claudio Ranieri's team's amazing success.

Leicester fan Alan Brenchley, 64, moved three years ago to Sheri Drive, Newton and was hugely surprised to learn that the next door neighbour, Ashleigh Maple and his family were also Foxes fans.

"We both have flags outside and must be the only two houses in the north west to have them," said Alan, a retired service engineer for scientific instruments.

They have closely followed the Foxes incredible league campaign which saw the club, which narrowly escaped relegation last season, win its first ever top-flight title.

"I just don't know how to put it into words, it's been a long time coming," added Alan, who is originally from London but has family in Leicester and has supported the club since 1961.

"For the last few weeks it has been a nightmare waiting for results to come through. We've been picking it up from Sky Sports.

"It is just unbelievable, we've been a yo-yo team for many years and last year was awful and then we got those results at the end to stay up.

"We had no expectation to do well this year, it must have been borne from last year at the end of the season.

"They've played so well and latched on to a system that worked for them."

Alan's wife Maria, who supports Hull City, added: "We moved to Newton three years ago and I just happened to see a Leicester City car sticker and I couldn't believe it, what are the odds of that? I said to them 'you and my husband are going to get on famously'."

Alan added: "I don't get to go down to the King Power but I have been to Everton away this year and it was good to see them win there.

"I'm still in cloud nine at the moment and I just hope when they play on Saturday they put in a good performance and we can celebrate properly!"
