FORMER rugby league captain Paul Sculthorpe was among the special guests attending the grand unveiling of a larger library at St Helens College town centre campus.
The college has invested a £1million charitable donation from the Gamble Education Charity Trust to create the new space.
An increased number of PCs, individual study booths, a performance and exhibition area and a cafe are among the new features, together with a wide range of books reflecting the college curriculum.
Rob Molloy, deputy principal, said: “Ensuring our students have access to state-of-the-art facilities to complement their learning is really important to us.
“Libraries are so much more than books, and this new space ensures that we are meeting the needs of our students to have adaptable, technologically advanced space, equipment and facilities.”
The launch was also attended by The Mayor of St Helens Steve Glover and local author Jessica Parish with the stars of her children’s books – her pugs, Pugalugs and Dug.
The space was designed by ABW Architects with the work undertaken by John Turner Construction Ltd.
