A BREAST cancer survivor who gave up a teaching career to set up a charity helping other patients has been shortlisted for a national award.

Sam’s Diamonds was launched two years ago by mother-of-three Sam Lewis.

She packed in her job at Cowley International College on Hard Lane to help women after her own battle with breast cancer.

The charity, which supports women through a cancer diagnosis, treatment and recovery, is run by volunteers.

It won selection as a finalist in the ‘Charity of the Year’ category of the E3 Business Awards, which will be held at the Macron Stadium in Bolton on June 3.

Founder Sam, 41, said: “The group’s numbers have tripled. We support families as they go through such a difficult time by helping them to maintain a positive outlook, providing fun activities and workshops to keep them moving forward."
