A DOCTOR who was found guilty of groping two vulnerable young women has been given a suspended jail sentence.

Liverpool Crown Court heard how 49-year-old Maxman Tembo used his position as a doctor to "grope and kiss" his victims. He was told that his career is in ruins.

Judge Clement Goldstone QC the Recorder of Liverpool told him: "It seems to me you targeted both of them precisely because of their age. You had no thought for their wellbeing. All you thought of was your own sexual gratification.

"Despite your denials I am quite sure you were attracted to these girls because they were young."

Tembo, from Marigold Way in Bold was convicted of sexually assaulting the two women and cleared of molesting two other women, denied all the offences and told a jury that he was a "committed Christian" and married man.

Judge Goldstone, told Tembo, who is a father of four: "It is sad that you should have played so hard, as you did through the trial, the religion card. You may be a devout Christian but your behaviour to these girls showed no adherence to or respect for the principles of Christianity.

"You have thrown away your career, thrown away your character and thrown away your reputation."

The judge described Tembo, who showed no emotion, as an intelligent man adding "you knew what you were doing had no place within the medical profession and to that extent you are clearly the author of your own misfortune.”

Tembo was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment suspended for two years and imposed a 12 month supervision order. He also imposed a four month curfew with a tag between 7pm and 7 am and ordered him to carry out 150 hours unpaid work and to sign the Sex Offenders Register for ten years.
