A SIX-year-old girl suffered a suspected broken arm following an accident between a bus and car in the town centre.

Emergency services were called to Corporation Street at the junction with Shaw Street at 8.40pm last night.

A silver Peugeot 308 with two adults, a teenage girl and two young children was in collision with an Arrive double decker bus which then collided with a railway bridge.

The six-year-old was taken to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. An 18-year-old woman also in the back of the car suffered a facial injury and a 33-year-old woman in the front was complaining of back pain. Bothe were taken to University Hospital Aintree in Fazakerley.

The 25-year-old male driver of the Peugeot and the 49-year-old driver of the bus suffered minor injuries. A baby boy who was in the back of the car was not injured.

The collision was reported to the emergency services by several witnesses and police closed Corporation Street between Parr Street and Shaw Street while the casualties were treated at the scene and an emergency assessment could be carried out on the damaged bridge.

The road was re-opened at around 1am.

An investigation into the full circumstances of what happened remains on-going.

An 18-year-old woman who was in the rear of the Peugeot car suffered facial injuries and was taken to University Aintree Hospital.

Another woman, believed to be 33, who was also in in the car was suffering from lower back pain.

The driver, aged 25, was also hurt but his injuries are not believed to be serious.

The 49-year-old driver of the bus also suffered injuries but again they are not thought to be serious.

There was damage to the railway bridge which had to be assessed by Network Rail engineers.

Corporation Street was closed until around 1am this morning.

A TOWN CENTRE road has been closed tonight after reports of an accident involving a double decker bus and a car.

Traffic reports state that Corporation Street has been shut both ways on the bridge due to accident between Shaw Street and A58 Parr Street.

Paramedics, police and fire crews were all at the scene but not official details of the incident have been released by emergency services at this stage.

Unconfirmed reports suggest a bus may have been in collision with a car and then gone on to strike the Corporarion Street bridge.

Star readers wrote on Facebook that the noise of a collision could be heard in the nearby Hippodrome Bingo Hall.
