A TEENAGER was allegedly stabbed with a machete in St Helens last night, police have confirmed.

The 17-year-old suffered a wound to the shoulder following a incident on Windle Street, near to North Road, St Helens shortly before 10.20pm, said  Merseyside Police.

A police spokesman confirmed a male was arrested at a house nearby the scene and was taken into custody for questioning on suspicion of assault.

The victim's injuries are not life threatening. He was taken to Whiston Hospital.

A machete was recovered from the scene, police confirmed.
