STUDENTS at St Helens College were given some top tips as they got to work with three top-class chefs.

Chefs Steven Doherty, James Holden and Matt Nugent were in the kitchens at Colours restaurant and joined learners from the college's catering and hospitality courses to produce a tasty meal of locally sourced produce at an exclusive guest dinner event.

Steven is famed for his work at Le Gavroche with Albert Roux and being the first British person to be head chef of a three-Michelin star restaurant in England.

Both James and Matt have spent time in several Michelin Starred kitchens, with James having worked at some of the world’s finest hotels including The Savoy in London and Gleaneagles in Scotland. Meanwhile, Matt has spent time working for Hilton Hotels and Heathcotes Restaurant.

"It was an amazing experience," said Louise McDonough, whoo took part on the night.

The event was the first of several Guest Chef dinners that will take place this year as the college looks forward to welcoming a host of world-acclaimed chefs to provide valuable work experience for its students.
