SPELLBINDING wizardry and creepy-crawlies were at Central Library last Thursday to celebrate the second World Harry Potter Day.

Children dropped by at the library dressed in their magical attire to celebrate the blockbuster series. They experienced life on the first day of Hogwarts, entering through platform nine-and-three-quarters, before trying on the Sorting Hat to be put into a house.

They also got up and close with some creepy-crawlies as the Magical Menagerie, supplied by Dylan’s Reptiles, showcased various creatures including spiders, snakes and other reptiles.

Youngsters were also treated to an evening of crafts, activities and readings from the famous books. They also headed over to Ollivander's to make their own magic wand before creating spells and potions in Snape’s magic room.

"We've had some good costumes and it's gone well, It's a good family event," said Amanda Brown, community library officer.

Bill Renshaw, Central Library and archives manager, added: "It's obviously to get people engaged and reading. The event has gone well and has been really good. It has been a few weeks in the planning on the back of the Star Wars event we held."
