FORMER Saints star John Stankevitch has been overwhelmed with support for the charity he set up in memory of his mum.

Cathie, 54, was killed in a tragic road accident when she was knocked down by a van in Hough Green Road, Widnes on Sunday, September 27.

Her husband, 55, was also injured in the collision.

They were walking their new puppies along a footpath when a Citreon Berlingo van mounted the pavement behind them.

Dad-of-three John, 36, is launching the Cathie Stankevitch Foundation at an 80s themed party at Select Stadium on March 5.

Widnes born professional darts player John Bowles is hosting a charity dinner and possible exhibition match in the spring.

And former Widnes Viking and St Helens rugby league players will compete in a golf day in July.

An online competition asking fans to identify players by their body parts will be launched in the coming weeks.

Sports memorabilia which didn’t reach their reserve in an auction are now up for grabs again.

John said: “The support has been overwhelming. People have been offering to do events.

“Mum would have been so proud.”

A Christmas prize draw was a sell out and raised £500.

“Every single penny is in the bank account,” said John.

“We want to wait until the charity is registered to decide how the money will be spent.”

Trustees have been appointed and a committee is being established.

“I want to keep my mum’s memory alive,” added John.
