SIX men have now been arrested and two men produced from prisons  to be interviewed under caution about a number of robberies across Merseyside and Cheshire, including St Helens.

Llyoyds TSB on Ellamsbridge Road in Sutton were both targeted on January 2 2013 and March 23 this year.

On the first incident staff arrived at work to discover that there had been an attempt to get inside be removing slates and cutting through the roof felt. But the attempt was unsuccessful.

On the second occasion staff were ready to open when they were confronted by two masked men who had got in through the roof. After threatening staff members they left with several thousand pounds.

Following the raids police seized thousands of pounds of cash, a Subaru Impreza and a CS gas cannister.

The breakdown for the arrests is as follows:

  • 30-year-old man arrested in Aigburth on suspicion to commit robbery
  • 35-year-old man arrested at second property in Aigburth for same offence plus a second man, aged 39, arrested at this property on suspicion of possession of a controlled drug
  • 38-year-old man arrested in Garston on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery
  • 38-year-old man arrested in the L8 area (Dingle) on suspicion of same offence
  • 35-year-old man arrrested at second property in L8 (Toxteth) on suspicion of same offence
  • two men from Liverpool aged 35 and 48 produced from prisons in the North-west to be interviewed on suspicion of conspiracy to committ robbery

During searches of a house in Garston an estimated £3,000 cash was seized and during a search of a house in Toxteth where the 35-year-old was arrested a CS gas cannister was recovered.

A Subaru was seized from another house in Garston on suspicion of having been used in the commission of a crime and will be forensically examination.

 


 

 

FOUR men have been arrested as part of a joint investigation into bank robberies and building societies across Merseyside including St Helens.

All were arrested in South Liverpool by officers on behalf of forces from Merseyside And Cheshire who are jointly investigating 22 robberies over a seven year period.

Teams of officers executed search warrants at properties in Dingle, Toxteth, Aigburth and Garston at 7am on Thursday, November 26.

The arrests are the culmination of a year long joint investigation into the robberies dating back to 2008 in which £1.5m was stolen.
