A SEA of more than 8,000 poppies was created at a Prescot war memorial for this year’s Remembrance Day services.

They have been installed around the BICC War Memorial at Prescot Cemetery after the Friends of St Mary’s Churchyard created the display using poppies from previous years’ wreaths.

Each fabric poppy has been mounted on a stick and placed on the grassed area surrounding the memorial. The display was completed in time for the Remembrance Day Services at the memorial on Sunday, November 8 and the civic ceremony on November 11.

Viv Frodsham, chair of The Friends of St Mary’s Churchyard, said: “The sea of poppies will be an eye catching and memorable tribute to those who lost their lives in armed conflicts. The fact it has been created using recycled poppies from wreaths placed at the memorial in previous years means that even these tributes have not gone to waste.”
