WOLVES have joined the rugby league community in sending their support and best wishes to journalist Gary Carter, who is in a coma after suffering serious head injuries following an incident outside an east London tube station.

Carter, a popular reporter on the rugby league and football circuit, is a regular at Wolves covering games and weekly press conferences.

The 36-year-old from Stalybridge was down in London to cover the weekend's second Test between England and New Zealand, but was allegedly attacked outside Bethnal Green station in the early hours of Friday.

He had surgery to remove a blood clot from his brain on Friday and remained in a medically induced coma at the Royal London Hospital until Tuesday, when he was moved to Papworth Hospital in Cambridge for specialist treatment.

Carter’s wife, Gemma, tweeted: “Hi #rlfamily. Please keep my loving husband in your thought today, say a prayer if you get chance @GaryCarter-1979."
