A YELLOW weather warning has been issued by the Met Office warning of heavy rain across St Helens for later today.

The rain is due to come in around 2pm and is expected to get heavier throughout the day.

The Met Office forecast states: "The morning will be mostly dry but there will be some showers during the afternoon, especially later across Cheshire where some will be heavy and thundery, with some localised flooding possible. Rather warm and humid. Maximum Temperature 20°C.

"Tonight there will be outbreaks of showery rain, heavy at times and will continue this evening and tonight. The rain will become lighter from the west as the night progresses. Turning cooler and windy. Minimum Temperature 11°C."
