EMPLOYERS from the logistics and warehouse industries offered hundreds of employment opportunities at a recent jobs fair.

The event, which was funded by Helena, the University of Liverpool National Apprenticeship Scheme and the European Social Fund, gave job seekers the chance to meet employers in person and discover more about training opportunities.

Stephen Dancer, 58, said: “I came here hoping to find a job and not only have I done that, I’ve also been offered lots of help and advice too. I’ve been unemployed for only a few weeks but already Helena has helped me back into work.”

Stephen will shortly start training before a full-time job in a supermarket warehouse.

People attending the event were given the opportunity to try out forklift trucks and test their existing knowledge by completing an HGV drivers’ hazard perception test.

Roy Williams, neighbourhood employment co-ordinator said: “By working with local, regional and national employers we are able to offer a wide range of opportunities and help to further break down the barriers our customers face everyday when looking for employment.”

One employer, Julie Garfield from the Job Gym at Mantra Learning said: “Often training is the first step to finding your future job and an event like this is the ideal place to start.”

Other organisations attending the event included Express Direct Training, LearnDirect, Starting Point, St Helens College, Merseytravel, army reserves and Jobcentre Plus.
