THE nephew of a cancer sufferer is hoping to put a smile on people's faces this weekend.

Earlier this year, the Star reported how Paul Allender was working with Anarchy Tattoo Studio, at Unique Barbers, Duke Street, to offer ‘smiley’ tattoos with different coloured designs to represent various types of cancer and rise funds for charity.

Now Paul's 'smiley gang' are supporting Cancer Research UK with a sponsored walk and series of events take place on the bank holiday weekend.

On Sunday (August 30) the six-mile Smiley March will begin at The Lounge Bar, on Bridge Street, St Helens and heading to Sherdley Park before coming back into town. There will also be live bands playing at the Lounge later on the day and an after-event party at the Kandy Klub, Westfield Street.

"It's a cause that's close to my heart," said Paul, 32, who also had a granddad suffer from cancer.

"Those who took part in the smiley campaign will be doing the walk as well and hopefully it's probably going to be busy in town on a bank holiday Sunday as well," added Paul, from Sutton.

There are plans for more events in future including offering more smiley tattoos as Paul attempts to reach his £2,000 fundraising target.

Sponsor forms for anyone who wants to take part are available from behind the bars at the Lounge and Kandy Klub or from the tattoo studio.

Visit the 'Smiley March sponsored walk' Facebook page for any more information and people taking part are asked to meet at noon at the Lounge Bar on Sunday, August 30.
